Marriott Courtyard Downtown
This
large, new, full-service property in downtown Toronto, with its
ergonomic chairs and high-speed Internet access, is a very good
choice for business travelers, and as well, we think, for families
on a budget, because of its moderate rate structure and central
location on Yonge Street, a few blocks from the Eaton Centre, a
convenient gateway to the city. In short, a very good value for
business and leisure visitors.

Days Hotel and Conference Centre Toronto
Arguably the best value in downtown Toronto for a vacationing family
on a budget, the newly renovated, full-service, 500-room Days
Hotel is close to the Yonge Street subway with access to
the Union Station, the SkyDome and CN Tower as well as the Royal
Ontario Museum to name but a few attractions you’ll certainly want
to see. The hotel is located on Carlton Street, a half block east
of Yonge Street, an easy walk to the Eaton Centre and the Canon
Theatre.

The Fairmont Royal York
This
dignified, 1300-room Toronto landmark is the standard by which all
other downtown hotels are measured. The Fairmont Royal York,
originally one of the Canadian Pacific railway hotels, is located
at the very epicenter of the city, across the street from (and connected
by passageways to) Union Station, the Toronto subway system, the
Eaton Centre, as well as the CN Tower and SkyDome. On-site amenities
include fine and casual dining and a fitness club with a pool (and
a children’s wading pool). The Royal York is our runaway first
choice for business and leisure visitors.

The Marriott Toronto Eaton Centre
If you’re coming to Toronto to shop at the Eaton Centre and/or in
Toronto’s vast underground city, the modern, 450-room Marriott Toronto
Eaton Centre would be a very, very nice choice. It is, of course,
directly connected to the Eaton Centre, virtually across the street
from City Hall and Nathan Phillips Square. Guests can walk the entire
2 miles from the hotel to the CN Tower, past hundreds and hundreds
of shops and restaurants, without ever going outdoors. For families,
babysitting through outside service, and for business travelers,
every room has high-speed Internet access.

Delta Chelsea
The
1600-room Delta Chelsea is the largest hotel in Canada, for good
or for ill. We think it’s a good choice for families with children,
because of its “Family Fun Zone” children’s centre, complete with
arcade room, indoor pool and a three story water slide, but candidly,
there are better options in the neighborhood for anyone else, including
the Days
Hotel and Conference Centre which is much less expensive,
the Marriott
Courtyard Downtown, which is newer and less expensive,
and the Marriott
Toronto Eaton Centre which is much newer, much nicer
and much closer to the Eaton Centre.

Novotel Toronto (Centre)
Leisure visitors will like the Novotel Toronto
because of its creature comforts and its convenient location adjacent
to the Hummingbird Centre, BCE Place and the Hockey Hall of Fame,
and its close proximity to the Harbourfront and all that it has
to offer. Amenities include a fitness centre, a very nice indoor
heated pool, spa tub, and sauna. Childcare services are also available.
Copy, fax and secretarial services available for business travelers,
but Internet access is dial-up.

The Toronto Hilton
We tend to think of the full-service Toronto Hilton
as a business traveler’s hotel, but the 32-story, 600 room property
is located in the middle of just about everything downtown Toronto
has to offer for leisure visitors. It is directly connected to the
vast underground city, near City Hall, the skating rink at Nathan
Phillips Square and the Eaton Centre (as well as the financial district,
of course), and it’s a short walk, indoors or out, to Union Station,
the SkyDome and CN Tower.

Renaissance Toronto SkyDome Hotel
The
Renaissance Toronto SkyDome Hotel is unique in the world. The 350-room
full-service hotel is integrated into Toronto’s unique sports and
entertainment stadium, the home of the Toronto Blue Jays and Argonauts,
and many of its skybox level guestrooms, as well as its Bistro restaurant,
overlook the playing field. Apart from that, the SkyDome location
is at the very epicenter of what any leisure visitor would want
to see in Toronto, including the adjacent CN Tower, the harbourfront
and theatre district. The hotel is also located immediately adjacent
to the Toronto Convention Centre.

Westin Harbour Castle
We’re very fond of the 35-story Westin Harbour Castle Hotel.
It’s an obvious choice for a business conference, and a wonderful
choice for leisure travelers who will enjoy the stunning views of
the busy harbour from many of its 1000 rooms, as well as the close
proximity to the Queen’s Quay terminal and Toronto’s other harbourfront
attractions. We particularly love the hotel’s balconied rooms overlooking
the ferry terminal, from which we listen to the ferries tooting
every 15 minutes prior to their departures for the islands.

Radisson Admiral Hotel
We love the smallish Radisson Admiral Hotel, one
of two downtown waterfront hotels, if for no other reason than its
location near the SkyDome, CN Tower, Union Station, the Queen’s
Quay Terminal, Ontario Place and all the harbourfront attractions.
The outdoor swimming pool, restaurants and many guestrooms have
nice views of the bustling harbour and islands. An exceptional value
for families visiting Toronto with children. Childcare services
are available.

The
Four Seasons
The five-star, 400-room Four Seasons is the obvious
choice for leisure travelers planning to focus their visits on shopping
and dining in Yorkville. This genuinely deluxe hotel is just steps
away from fashionable Hazelton Lanes and a half block from the Royal
Ontario Museum, one of Toronto’s premier attractions. For business
travelers, the hotel also provides complimentary morning limousine
service to the downtown business district, a short ride even at
rush hour, and a full-service business centre, of course. One of
our favorite hotels in one of our favorite locations.
