Fairmont Waterfront Hotel.
This lavishly decorated, 500-room, five-star property, the newer of Vancouver’s two harbourfront hotels is located at Canada Place, the epicenter of the city. Its restaurants, swimming pool, health club and many guestrooms overlook the harbour, with wonderful views (through floor to ceiling windows) of the cruise ships loading and unloading, and the seaplanes coming and going. The Fairmont Waterfront is our staff’s first choice of Vancouver Hotels for vacation and business travelers.

Pan Pacific.
The city’s other five-star, 500-room, waterfront hotel, the Pan Pacific, is built on a pier that’s contiguous with Vancouver’s cruise ship terminal and convention center. Most of the hotel’s deluxe rooms overlook the mountains and/or the inlet where guests can watch as a succession of cruise ships, often three a day, glide up to their berths beside the hotel. You may want to get on one and sail away.

Westin Bayshore. (pictured above left)
Don’t let the somewhat dated exterior fool you, the interior spaces at the Westin have been beautifully renovated, with most guestrooms overlooking the quaint marina, and the glide path of a procession of landing seaplanes that float by the hotel from dawn to dusk. You’ll quickly feel like you’re part of the Vancouver lifestyle. Unique in the world.

Hotel Vancouver.
The deluxe, chateau style Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is one of Canada’s great railway hotels, and one of Vancouver’s premier architectural landmarks. This historic hotel is located near the corner of Robson and Burrard Streets (the veritable crossroads of British Columbia), next door to the Vancouver Art Gallery, a block from the Robson shopping mall and two blocks from Canada Place. Elegant and dignified, in a class by itself.

^check rates and availability

Marriott Pinnacle Hotel.
This new high-rise hotel is located near the heart of the central business and shopping districts, and a mile from Stanley Park, is a good choice for business and vacation travelers. Many of its 400 nicely decorated guestrooms offer stunning views of Grouse Mountain and the Harbour and all that happens there. High-speed Internet access is available.

Granville Island Hotel.
This small hotel is located at the water’s edge, on the east end of Granville Island, a short stroll from the market area. You definitely will want to visit Granville Island (a cross between Boston’s Faneueil Hall, and Miami’s Bayside Marketplace) while in Vancouver, so you can stay there and take a taxi (or Aquabus) downtown, or you can stay downtown, at a considerably higher price, and take a taxi or Aquabus to Granville Island. Don’t miss the Aquabus in any case.

^check rates and availability

Opus.
New, small (90 rooms), deluxe, and avant guard, but friendly and unselfconscious, Opus is located in the heart of trendy Yaleville with its popular restaurants and boutiques. The four-star hotel offers complimentary shuttle (via S-class Mercedes) to the downtown core, but it’s also a short walk down the hill to an Aquabus stop from which you can take a pleasant, five-minute water-taxi ride to Granville Island. Pets are welcome.
